30 years with children and families
Kelly Alls, known to many as Granny Kelly, has spent more than 30 years working with young children and their families. As the founder of a nursery group, a mum of five and grandmother of four, children have always been at the heart of her life.
Alongside her passion for supporting children, Kelly has always loved the magic of Christmas. She still vividly remembers the excitement of Christmas Eve as a child, the anticipation of Santa’s arrival, wondering if she might hear him on the roof, and the feeling that anything was possible while waiting for Christmas morning to arrive.
Inspired by those treasured memories, and by her understanding of what helps children feel safe and secure, Kelly wanted to create a new Christmas tradition centred around comfort, kindness and connection. Something that would help children feel reassured, included and remembered, wherever they are.
Where Freddie came from
Throughout her career, Kelly has seen how even the smallest changes can have a big impact on children. A new home, a different routine, family changes, or simply being somewhere unfamiliar can sometimes leave children feeling uncertain.
Christmas can make those feelings even bigger.
Kelly wanted every child to experience the same wonder, excitement and anticipation she remembers from her own childhood Christmases. She wanted to create something that would reassure children that no matter where they are spending Christmas, Santa will always know exactly where to find them.
From that idea, Freddie the Star was born.
